Bugatti has announced the production of the F.K.P. Hommage, a one-off edition of its W-16 hypercar created as a tribute to the Veyron.

Bugatti reached its peak of popularity during the 1920s and 1930s. After World War II, however, the French brand faced many difficulties. Success returned in the 1990s, but it was only in the 2000s, under the supervision of the Volkswagen Group, that the manufacturer truly returned to the top of the luxury car market.

Now, two decades after the launch of the Veyron — the car that completely changed the game for Bugatti — the brand has decided to produce the F.K.P. Hommage. Beyond paying tribute to its iconic model, the car also honors Ferdinand Karl Piëch, the patriarch of the Volkswagen Group in the 1990s and 2000s and the mastermind behind Bugatti’s return to prominence.

Externally, the F.K.P. Hommage closely resembles the Veyron, but underneath it is based on the car’s successor, the Chiron, which was launched in 2016. Under the hood, it also serves as a final tribute to Bugatti’s immensely powerful W-16 engine.

The engine, which has been at the heart of all modern Bugatti models until now, will be replaced by a new hybrid V-16 powertrain developed by Cosworth for the Tourbillon. The quad-turbocharged W-16 found in the F.K.P. Hommage is the variant from the Chiron Super Sport, delivering an impressive 1,578 hp.

Although it looks very similar to the Chiron from the outside, the interior could not be more different. The cabin is wrapped in supple brown leather, the seats and door panels are upholstered in an exclusive fabric with a unique pattern, and the flat-bottom steering wheel from the Chiron has been replaced with a circular unit.

The center console features a bright silver fish-scale-style trim piece to house the physical controls, and in keeping with the exterior theme, you’ll also find silver details machined from solid blocks of aluminum throughout the cabin.

The dashboard also features an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon, an elegant octagonal watch positioned atop the center console. Despite its very classic appearance, the digital instrument cluster makes it clear that the F.K.P. Hommage is a modern car.

The F.K.P. Hommage is the second product from Solitaire, Bugatti’s new division dedicated to creating up to two fully bespoke vehicles each year. Last year, the French manufacturer unveiled the Brouillard, the first vehicle from the new division. Both appear to be extremely expensive, but Bugatti has not disclosed the price of its special vehicles.
